Boxing Results: Angelo Leo Knocks Out Venado Lopez!

IBF World Featherweight Champion Luis Lopez (30-3, 17 KOs)  was knocked out by WBA Continental North American Champion Angelo Leo (25-1,12 KOs) at 1:15 of the tenth round of a scheduled 12-round fight on Saturday night at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the first two rounds, it was a slugfest, with Leo having a slight edge. In the third and fourth rounds, both had moments with Leo having an edge.

From the fifth through the eighth rounds, Lopez had a slight edge in a war.

In the tenth round, a left hook from Leo on the chin and down went Lopez for the count.

In the Co-Main Event 2015, Olympian Lindolfo Delgado (21-0, 15 KOs) won a split decision in a war over IBF USBA Super Light champ Bryan ‘Nino Maravilla’ Flores (26-1-1, 15 KOs) after ten rounds.

In the third round, a right on the side of the head from Delgado dropped Flores to a knee for an 8-count from referee Robert Velez. In the fourth round, Flores came back well, landing a left hook to the chin of Delgado in the final minute.

In the fifth round, Delgado outworked Flores for the most part in a close round. In the sixth round, both boxers had their moments. When Flores is hurt he comes back stronger at times taking the round. In the seventh round, after a second warning from Referee Velez, he took a point from Flores for a punch that bounced off the elbow of Delgado to below the belt line. Delgado landed a left uppercut to Flores’s chin in the final seconds of the round.

Flores rocked Delgado with a left to the chin at the eighth round’s halfway point, having him holding on momentarily. In the ninth round, it was rock n’ sock them from both, with Flores getting the better of it.

In the tenth and final round, after a minute, Flores rocked Delgado with a left to the chin. At the end of the round’s final seconds, both landed hard blows to the chin as Flores seemed to pull it out.

NABA Flyweight champ Matthew ‘Diamond Boy’ Griego (15-0, 10 KOs) defeated game Gilberto Mendoza (23-19-4, 11 KOs) over 8 rounds.

In the first three rounds, both boxers had their moments, with Griego up 2-1. In the fourth round, Mendoza kept coming forward, walking into Griego’s counterpunching.

In the fifth through the seventh round, Griego had the edge against a game Mendoza. In the eighth and final round, Griego had Mendoza hurt midway with left hooks to the chin.

Referee Rocky Burke. Scores all 80-72.

WBA Continental Americas and WBC USA Super Welterweight champ Vito ‘White Majic’ Mielnicki, Jr (19-1, 13 KOs) stopped by DQ Laszlo Toth (32-9-2, 20 KOs) at 1:39 of the second round ruled a DQ due to corner of Toth stepping into the ring of a 10.

Mielnicki landed many left hooks on Toth’s chin in the first round. In the final seconds, a left hook to the chin of Toth had him hurt. In the second round, at the halfway point, Mielnicki landed a hard left hook to the chin, dropping Toth for an 8-count from Referee Wes Melton. As Toth got up on shaky legs, his corner called a halt.

Super Flyweight Steven Navarro, 3-0, 2 KO) obliterated Israel Camacho (2-12) at 2:14 of the first of a 6.

In the first round, a left to the body from Navarro and down went for an 8-count. With a minute remaining, a right to the body from Navarro and again down went Camacho for the count from Referee Robert Velez.

Light Alan ‘Kid Kansas’ Garcia (14-0, 11 KOs) knocked out Maickol ‘El Coyote’ Lopez Villagrana, 16-5 (8), #136 ¼, of Mexico City, MEX, Miami, FL, at 2:34 of the third of an 8.

In the second round, Garcia dropped Villagrana with a right uppercut to the chin for an 8-count. In the third round, a right to the head from Garcia and down went Villagrana for an 8-count from Referee Ernie Shaif, as Villagrana’s corner called a halt.

Feather Albert Gonzalez (10-0, 6 KO) stopped Damian ‘El Duro’ Alcala (8-5, 2 KO) at 2:51 of the third of a 6.

In the first round Gonzalez landed left hooks to the chin in out-landing Alcala. In the second round Alcala came back well though not taking the round. In the third round Gonzalez dropped Alcala with a right to the chin for an 8-count from Referee Rocky Burke. Seconds later Gonzalez again dropped Alcala with a right to the chin forcing Referee Burke to call a halt.

Feather Arnold ‘Ami’ Khegai (22-1-1, 14 KOs) stopped Belmar ‘Big Boy’ Preciado (22-8-1, 15 KOs) after eight rounds of a 10.

In the first two rounds, Khegai had a slight edge working Predciado. In the third round, Khegai rocked Predciado halfway through the round with a left hook to the chin.

In the fifth round, Khegai hurt Predciado in a corner with a flurry of punches and was warned by the referee, Robert M., to fight back or he would stop the fight. In the eighth round, Khegai dominated Predciado. His corner stopped between rounds.
