Miguel Madueño for upset vs. Keyshawn Davis

Mexican lightweight Miguel Madueño, 31-2-0 (28 KO), will face the undefeated American fighter Keyshawn Davis, 10-0-0 (7 KO). This fight opens the transmission via ESPN of the Top Rank event from the Prudential Center in New Jersey next Saturday, July 6, where we’ll also see two world title fights.

25-year-old Madueño comes to this fight to try to defeat a technically difficult fighter like Davis, and with the power to finish the fight at any time. Davis, who is promoted by Top Rank, has in his record a victory by TKO against former world champion José Pedraza as his best win.

Meanwhile, Madueño comes from winning an SD against Justin Pauldo and losing in 10 rounds to Steve Clagget. The Canadian lost last week vs. Teofimo Lopez in a fight that few gave him a chance to reach the distance. In 2022, the Mexican was defeated in a highly contested fight by Jezzrel Corrales in Panama.

This is a very tough fight, and on paper, it looks very difficult to get a positive result. However, experience can play in favor of Madueño, his team believes in the possibility of getting an unexpected result for many fans, but Helder Medina does not see it as so crazy.

“We have everything against us; this is boxing and we don’t try to fool anyone, we know that the favorite of the boxing experts is Davis. And they give us little chance to win. But Madueño has experience and power, we come for a surprise and we hope that everything goes well,” said Helder Medina.

“Many fighters who come from Mexico to the USA have done things like this in the past. They climb into the ring with everything against them and at the end of the battles, they end up raising their hands. That’s why thousands of boxing fans around the world never give up on a Mexican fighter,” said Cummings.

Davis is a former Tokyo Olympian, and Top Rank keeps him running a career that in the future manages to put him in a world title fight. On the other hand, Miguel Madueño is trying to get a great result based on his experience, and perhaps on the power of his hands.
