IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) used his massive size advantage to score a fifth-round doctor’s stoppage of challenger David Avanesyan (30-5-1, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Ennis dropped Avanesyan in the fifth with a counter left hand. After the round ended, the ringside doctor advised the fight be halted. Avanesyan’s left eye was swollen, and the left side of his cheek was swollen. The time of the stoppage was at 3:00 of round five.

Undercard results:

– Welterweight prospect Jalil Hackett (9-0, 7 KOs) won an unimpressive ten-round unanimous decision over Peter Dobson (16-2, 9 KOs). The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94. The more accurate of the three scores was the 96-94 score.

Hackett, 21, got hit a lot, didn’t show much power, and his hand speed wasn’t impressive.

– WBC World female featherweight champion Skye Nicolson (11-0, 1 KO) boxed her way to a wide ten-round unanimous decision win over Dyana Vargas (19-2, 12 KOs). Nicolson, 28, moved, punched, and clinched the entire fight.

There was very little variation to her game, which is the norm. When Vargas would close the distance, Nicholson would tie her up immediately. The scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 100-90.
