Shakur Stevenson must show he’s good business

At this time, everything is measured by media popularity. If you capture the fans’ interest, you will surely have promoters eager to organize your fights. Your current standing is only as good as your last fight.

Taking this paragraph literally, we must conclude that Shakur Stevenson shouldn’t expect many job offers. If he wants to see some offers after Saturday night’s fight, he should avoid repeating what we saw in the Stevenson – Edwin De Los Santos fight.

Eddie Hearn, Oscar De La Hoya, PBC, and many others will undoubtedly be watching the performance and outcome of the fight against Artem Harutyunyan. Shakur must not only succeed but also look impressive. Furthermore, he must convince boxing fans that his fights are worth watching.

Fans pay TV subscriptions for entertainment, and promoters aim to sign the most thrilling fighters. That’s the essence of this business. Shakur Stevenson seems to have forgotten all this during his last fight, and now he has little to gain and much to lose.

According to Stevenson, he has everything he needs to become a free agent. He seems to believe he no longer needs a promotional company, unlike before. Moreover, he blames Bob Arum for the turmoil in his career. If you’re seeking an offer to mask your poor performance, this attitude may not be appropriate.

I don’t even want to think about the media repercussions if Stevenson disappoints the boxing fans again. If he loses or delivers another subpar performance, he’ll have to decide to quit boxing and let others do what he refused to do.

Shakur does not seem to understand that professional boxing is marred by brutal beatings and bloodshed. If the worst occurs, it’s clear that those who govern boxing and the major TV companies broadcasting these events would not want Stevenson around.
