Jesse Bam Rodriguez (20-0, 13 KOs) dethroned WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (44-4, 28 KOs), knocking him out with a left to the body in the seventh round on Saturday night at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Referee Chris Flores halted the fight at 3:00 of round seven after Estrada went down.
In the fifth, Bam Rodriguez knocked Estrada down with a left to the head. A round later, Estrada dropped Bam with a straight right to the head early in the sixth. However, Bam came back to win the remainder of the round.
Former IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards (21-1, 4 KOs) won an eight-round technical decision over Adrian Curiel (24-6-1, 5 KOs).
The advice of the ringside doctor halted the fight due to a cut on the forehead of Edwards. The cut was caused by a clash of heads in the sixth. The scores were 90-82, 88-84 and 87-85.
– WBC female super bantamweight champion Yamileth Mercado (24-3, 5 KOs) retained her title with a ten-round unanimous decision victory over Ramla Ali (9-2, 2 KOs). The scores were 98-92, 98-93, and 97-93.
